It was reported over this past weekend that a high-value theft took place at Scotland’s oldest distillery. On Saturday 12th April, Glenturret Distillery in Crieff was targeted and thousands of pounds worth of whisky as stolen.
In a statement on social media, Glenturret confirmed that they has been the “target of a high-value robbery.” The incident took place at 4.45am on Saturday morning. As such, the distillery was closed to visitors on Saturday, but were thankfully able to reopen the following day.
Among the bottles taken were a 25 year old Glenturret and another limited edition whisky presented in a Lalique decanter. The Glenturret 25 year old 2024 edition has an RRP of £1,400 and was one of 210 bottles, with only 18 of those bottles available in the UK.
The Glenturret Still Life Spring was another item stolen. This whisky is part of a series celebrating the seasons and each edition came in a unique decanter produced by French luxury glassmaker Lalique. Still Life Spring is limited to 105 bottles and has an RRP of £5,500.
Glenturret were able to confirm that there were no injuries reported and thanked their customers and the local community for their patience and support during this period. Because this is an ongoing investigation, they have not been able to comment further.
Police Scotland’s Tayside division have issued an appeal for any witness to come forward. A police spokesperson issues a statement confirming that “several high value bottles of Glenturret whisky in distinctive bottles made by Lalique were stolen and remain outstanding.”
