Brown-Forman have revealed a stunning 50 year old BenRiach - the oldest single malt to be released by the distillery. The 50 year old was officially launched at TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference in Singapore.
Spirit distilled in 1966 was then laid to rest in a single bourbon cask for 50 years, gently maturing in the distillery’s Speyside warehouses. Master Blender Rachel Barrie handpicked the cask, noting its “exceptional quality.”
Stéphane Morizet, marketing director GTR Brown-Forman, adds that “it is the finest portrayal of Benriach’s fruit-laden style, with unrivalled complexity and luxurious refinement.”
At the launch, this special whisky was described as the “pinnacle of luxury and exclusivity in Scotch whisky”. Indeed, this is almost as exclusive as it gets; only 37 bottles are available, with 5 being allocated for Global Travel Retail.
Morizet noted that Brown-Forman are reaffirming their presence in the GTR market, saying that the 50 year old “underscores the importance of this market to Brown-Forman and highlights our commitment to delivering exceptional luxury editions to travellers.”
Fittingly, this exceptional Scotch is beautifully presented. Bespoke decanters were created by Tain-based glassmakers Glasstorm for this release.
Reputed craftsman John Galvin - who has previous worked with brands such as Macallan, Bowmore and Glen Grant - designed the presentation box for the 50 year old, drawing inspiration from the colourful cask-ends seen in BenRiach’s warehouse.
Bottled at 44.5% ABV, this unpeated expression from BenRiach is said to offer notes of chestnut, maraschino cherry and gentle acacia honey on the nose, while oak and honeyed dates balance apples, pears and delicate grapefruit on the palate.
