This past weekend the whisky world lost one of its greatest writers with the announcement that Dominic Roskrow has passed away at the age of 61.
Dominic was well-loved throughout the industry and is considered something of a pioneer in promoting world whisky, having wrote about Japanese and non-Scotch European whiskies long before it was fashionable to do so.
Having wrote for every spirits magazine you could possibly name, Dominic also served as editor for The Spirits Business and Whisky Magazine, among others. He was also a prolific author, with titles such as 1,001 Whiskies to try Before You Die, Whiskey America, and World’s Best Whiskies: 750 Unmissable Drams from Tain to Tokyo educating and entertaining whisky lovers worldwide.
Beyond his journalistic output, Dominic also worked as a consultant for three different whisky companies.
His contributions to whisky were acknowledged when he was made a Keeper of the Quaich in 2007 and a Kentucky Colonel in 2010. His journalism was also awarded in 2015, when he was named Fortnum & Mason Drinks Writer of the Year.
Dominic’s passing is a great loss for the industry, and we send out condolences to all those who knew him.
