Fresh off unveiling Ardnahoe’s inaugural release, Hunter Laing continue their impressive week by reporting record profits for the year ending April 2023.

The Glasgow based independent bottler posted a record breaking £11 million profit, which is a substantial increase on the previous year’s £7.9m. Their accounts show that these profits coincide with a growth of over £2.5m in revenue.

Accounting for this achievement, Hunter Laing point to their increased presence in the Far Eastern and North American markets. There is an appetite for premium Scotch whisky in these areas and the company have been able to capitalise on this demand thanks to their stocks of old and rare spirit.

In addition to older bottlings, the company also point out the growing popularity of their own brands such as the Scarabus Islay single malt as an important factor in their success.

Hunter Laing was founded in 2013 by chairman Stewart Laing and his two sons Scott and Andrew. The company formed following a difference of opinion between brothers Fred and Stewart Laing, resulting in a ‘de-merger’ of the family’s Douglas Laing & Co bottling business. Thankfully the process was amicable, and the brothers were able to split the Douglas Laing brand names between them.

After attempting to build a distillery on the island for some time, Hunter Laing founded Ardnahoe on Islay in 2016. Spirit was produced at the site for the first time in 2018 and the first official bottling of Ardnahoe is due to be released on 10th May 2024.

Between the record profits and the long-awaited launch of a new Islay malt, it’s certainly an exciting time for the bottling firm - we raise a glass to their continued success!
