Johnnie Walker celebrated St Andrews Day with a brand new collaboration and accompanying limited edition whisky.
Cast your eye over any whisky auction and you’ll find pages overflowing with limited edition Johnnie Walkers, but the latest release has found a way to set itself apart: this one has a bag.
Johnnie Walker Princes Street have partnered with legendary Scottish textile house Harris Tweed Hebrides to deliver a whisky that comes with a bespoke carry bag for the bottle. This will be the first entry in an ongoing series called the Johnnie Walker Princes Street Collective, which will see the world-famous Scotch brand work with the best creative forces in Scotland.
For the bag, Harris Tweed Hebrides drew inspiration from their home in the Outer Hebrides and Johnnie Walkers Princes Street venue to create a unique and vibrant plaid that honours both iconic locations. As part of the collaboration they have also worked with BeYonder, a charity that specialises in ethical textile manufacturing.
It’s not all about fashionable packaging however, and the whisky inside the bottle promises to be as unique as its exterior.
It will be the first whisky to be released that has spent some of its maturation period in the Whisky Makers Cellar at Johnnie Walker Princes Street. These unique conditions, beneath Edinburgh’s famous thoroughfare, are warmer than traditional warehouses in Scotland. This will increase the impact the American oak casks have on the whisky. As a result we can expect flavours of honeysuckle, soft fruits and warming wood smoke - no doubt every bit as vibrant as the bag it comes in.
This isn’t the first between collaboration between the two brands, as they worked together to produce a tweed fabric infused with the aroma of Johnnie Walker Black Label a few years ago.
The Johnnie Walker x Harris Tweed blend is available now. If you wish to bag yourself a bottle, this whisky is sold exclusively at Johnnie Walker Princes Street for £169.
