Speyside megabrand Macallan have raised the bar yet again with their latest release, prompting the entire whisky market to ponder: "when will it end?"

In an incredible display of ludicrosity, Macallan have unveiled their 'Time: Space Collection' as part of their 200th anniversary celebrations. The headline act is an 84 year old expression - officially the world's oldest single malt. In an interesting twist, the release is actually two whiskies in one (a bargain!), as the presentation contains a 'secondary chamber' - perhaps the first appearance of such a phrase when discussing a new whisky release - which contains the first bottling of whisky from Macallan's current distillery, distilled in 2018 and aged for 5 years.

Unusually for releases of this calibre, Edrington have actually provide details of the liquid - a relief for those who will be clamouring to crack open a bottle and give it a taste. As with other recent Macallan releases of this age, the cask is likely to have been purchased from Gordon & MacPhail, the proceeds of which are widely accepted as being sufficient to fund G&M's entire project of building the Cairn Distillery.

Macallan's 'Time: Space' (as this release is known) is available to purhase by invite only, and is limited to only 200 decanters/sculptures/vessels/ (delete as appropriate).

The launch also unveiled a second expression called 'Time: Space Mastery' which is red and circular, and looks like something you'd find in a Hoop-La game. The box also features 200 spikes for some reason.

Overall, this is the latest example of Macallan doing what Macallan do best. Making a statement, raising the profile of the brand and making the average whisky drinker roll their eyes.
