Peaky Blinders was, and still is, a cultural phenomenon. The Cillian Murphy led TV show was a massive hit on both sides of the Atlantic which left fans wanting more when it ended in 2022. A forthcoming Peaky Blinders film will no doubt satiate that appetite for many, but for those STILL craving more of the Shelby family in their life then this new whiskey may just be for you.
That’s right, Peaky Blinders will now join the likes of Game of Thrones and beloved Scottish sitcom Still Game with its own specially created whiskey.
Barrel Global, a US-based barrel ownership platform Barrel Global, has teamed up with Banijay Entertainment to release a limited edition Peaky Blinders bourbon. It’s believed this whiskey will be the first in a range of spirits to be released using the Peaky Blinders name.
Whiskey is a natural fit to be the first officially licensed alcohol product for the project. One of the main arcs of the show sees the gang profit from smuggling Irish whiskey into the US.
The Peaky Blinders Kentucky Straight Bourbon is produced at Green River Distillery. Barrel Global describe Green River “a survivor of the Prohibition era,” thereby adding another link to the TV show which was set between 1919 and the 1930s.
This connection continues with the casks used to mature the spirit. The whisky was finished in casks made with Irish whiskey oak staves for a final connection to the series.
In terms of flavour, we can expect aromas of stone fruits, baking spices and honey on the nose before notes of toffee, cloves and a floral sweetness come through on the palate. It’s also bottled at 45% ABV for maximum drinkability without sacrificing flavour and texture.
Packaging for this special release was designed by independent creative agency Boundless Bite Marketing. Much of the imagery used on the label and in the marketing material features references to the show that will resonate with fans.
George Koutsakis, founder of Barrel Global, said: “As a huge fan of the Peaky Blinders, it’s a privilege to capture their sensational gangster world in a bottle. From the liquid to the design, we wanted to create an immersive experience, and I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved.”
Leila Loumi, SVP licensing and merchandising at Banijay Rights, added: “We were drawn to partner with Barrel Global because of their ability to act as a one-stop shop for creating the bottle from start to finish, while retaining the creativity and craftsmanship that we needed to bring the story to life. We can’t wait to see how the fans respond to this beautiful bottle.”
The Peaky Blinders Kentucky Straight Bourbon is set for release in Mexico, Canada and the United States from early March with an RRP of US$44.99. Pre-orders are currently open on the Barrel Global website.
Fans elsewhere may have to wait a little longer for a Peaky Blinders whiskey however, as there has been no confirmation of a global rollout for this release.
