A Hollywood A-lister has returned to one of Scotland's mosty popular single malt distilleries, to oversee the bottling of his very own private cask.

The project will see 150 bottles being offered for sale at Whisky Auctioneer, with the proceeds going to Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

Ewan McGregor - famous for his roles in Trainspotting and Star Wars - was present at the Lochranza distillery on the Isle of Arran in 1998 to toast the first casks of their single malt, and was presented with his own personal sherry hogshead. 26 years later, the whisky has matured to perfection and is ready to be bottled.

The expression is one of the oldest ever released by the distillery, with all 150 bottles presented with a specially designed 'Ewan's Cut' label. The first 24 bottles will also be handsigned by McGregor.

The auction runs from 27th September to 7th October, with Whisky Auctioneer donating all auction fees to CHAS.

For us at Bevvy HQ, this story ticks all the boxes: namely, a famous figure extolling the virtues of quality single malt Scotch to a worldwide audience. Scotland's answer to Beyonce's SirDavis whiskey, perhaps?

It is a fantastic coup for Isle of Arran Distillers too, which - with the help of immaculate timing - has built a successful distillery and created a whisky brand 'the right way', remaining independent and producing a range of fantastic expressions.

The 'Ewan's Cut' release also passes our litmus test of any celebrity-backed whisky release, in that we would want to purchase a bottle, regardless of the celebrity involvement.

Best of luck to all those bidding in the auction!
