Sustainability is an important and frequently discussed topic, yet in the world of reusable straws and coffee cups, the idea of a refillable whisky bottle remains something of a novel concept. Nevertheless, it’s a route White Peak Distillery are going down with their latest Wire Works release.
Those who return to the distillery with an empty bottle of the Wire Works Caduro will not just have the opportunity to have their bottle refilled, but will also receive a 15% refill discount as a reward for their sustainable practice.
The Wire Works Caduro is the Derbyshire distillery’s first release of 2023, coming almost exactly a year after the launch of their inaugural release and follows what was a very successful 2022 for the upstart distillery. This release also signifies a move towards a potential ‘core’ whisky, following a series of highly sought after small-batch whiskies.
Caduro takes its name from a brand of cables that were produced at the Johnson & Nephew Wire Works, the site of which is now home to the White Peak distillery, providing another link to the local area’s rich history.
The whisky itself is non-chillfiltered and presented at natural colour. Bottled at 46.8%ABV, the Caduro is a vatting of single malt whiskies produced by the distillery that have been matured in a combination of American and French oak, first-fill ex-bourbon and STR casks. It promises to be keeping within the distillery’s approachable, lightly peated housestyle, offering notes of green apples, cereal, tobacco, warming spices and a wisp of smoke.
Wire Works Caduro is available now through selected retailers, but the aforementioned 15% discount and refilling option is exclusive to the distillery.
